Time to do some housekeeping on the blog

I now have 10 blog posts on this blog so it is time to do some housekeeping on it to tidy it up so my readers, like yourself,  find the posts easily.  I love the ‘Read More’ button (see image below).  Have you heard of it or seen it on another blogs?

read more button

You can see this Read More button in visual editor.  It allows you to show an excerpt of your post so you can show more posts to the whole screen.  This looks better and makes it easier for the reader to find a post they would like to read.  When you have a lot of posts this does help the reader considerably.

You can also change the text, so instead of it saying “keep reading’ or ‘read the rest of this entry’ or ‘continue reading’ you can add your own message.  You can do this by going to HTML editor and finding the More tag which will have <!– in front of the word ‘ more’, add a space, then write whatever message you want.  Does that sound clear?  If not then just try it out and then just publish the post and have a look at it in visual editor.

I like to show one or two paragraphs then insert the More tag and apply it to my older posts first. One word of caution though for existing posts.  Just make sure you don’t insert the tag within another HTML tag like a bold (strong) text as this will screw things up.  If you see that then move the tag to outside the other tag.

That is just a simple tweak I have done to the blog this week so more posts are showing as I want readers to be able to see as many posts as they can to the screen just by pressing a little button.  Why not try it out on a few older posts you have on your blog.
